Program Description

The Diploma of Canine Nutrition is a solid science-based foundational exploration of nutrients, life stage nutrition, digestive anatomy, and other topics related to this area of study. This program provides the solid foundation of knowledge necessary to understand canine nutrition. 

Do you want a solid understanding of the science of nutrition of dogs? If so this program of study may be just what you need in order for you to achieve your goals. This program of study would be of interest to anyone wanting to gain a solid understanding of canine nutrition and possibly prepare themselves for a advanced program of study in the future.

This program is based on written assignments. 
The Companion Animal Sciences Institute's Department of Nutritional and Fitness Sciences will allow the student to specialize their studies. There are specialty courses that will allow the student to specialize their studies. The specialization will be printed on the student's diploma.

Students can expect to do a lot of studying and writing in this program, exploring the various topics in-depth. 

The graduate would be awarded a Diploma of Canine Nutrition.

  • Nutrient classes
  • Carbohydrates, (definitions, classifications, functions, requirements, etc)
  • Protein, (definitions, classifications, functions, requirements, etc)
  • Fats, (definitions, classifications, functions, requirements, etc)
  • Minerals, introduction, function, required, toxic, interactions
  • Macro minerals
  • Trace minerals
  • Vitamins, general, classifications, interactions, functions, requirements, deficiencies, etc.
  • Water, function, requirements
  • Digestion, anatomy, physiology, enzymes, hormones, absorption, etc.
  • Life stage nutrition, pregnancy, lactation, weaning, puppies, adults, geriatrics
  • Commercially prepared dog foods
  • Home-cooked diets
  • Raw diets
  • Non-nutritive feed additives
  • Ingredient analysis and evaluation
  • Aflatoxins, mycotoxins, endotoxins
  • Terminology, crude, complete and balanced, split ingredients, etc

Specialty

Students wishing to specialize and have their specialization indicated on their diploma and transcript may take a specialty courseand have it applied to their program of study. The specialty course must be applied for separately. More specialty courses will be added soon.

Tuition

Tuition is in Canadian funds (Currency Converter), + 4% fee for for online payments. Textbooks not included in tuition. They may be purchased through http://www.dogwise.comhttp://www.amazon.comhttp://www.abebooks.com or http://www.half.com in most cases. Also check the Student LibraryCanadian Residents 5% GST. Option #1. $1000 Canadian (plus 4% service charge) = $1040.

Option #2. Payment plan. $540 & 6 monthly payments of $100, requested on the first of each month after enrollment and due within 7 days from then.

None. 

Schedule

The program begins as soon as your enrollment is complete and you receive your enrollment package. Although we allow17 months for this course, you are free to complete the course sooner if you can, and we do allow extensions if need be. Note that you will see time limits for each individual course on the course pages, but when you are enrolled in a diploma program there are no intermediate deadlines. Nothing is due before the program time-frame listed here.
