Program Description

The Diploma of Advanced Companion Animal Behavior is an in-depth and advanced exploration of the training and constructing behavior change programs for parrots, cats and dogs. The student will become familiar with principles of learning and behavior, the biology of behavior, how to do a functional assessment of behavior problems, develop a behavior change program for addressing problem behavior as well as an introduction to the free-range behavior of parrots, cats and dogs, research methods and principles of critical thinking. This program will prepare the graduate to carry out behavioral research and interpret the reasoning and research carried out by others.

This program allows the student to specialize their program with an independent study course. The student will have the opportunity to explore a topic of their choice in detail.

Students can expect to do a lot of studying and writing in this program, exploring the various topics in depth. The program is geared toward a behavioral approach.

This program requires approximately 602 work-hours.

The graduate is awarded a Diploma of Advanced Companion Animal Behavior and allowed the letters Dip.ACAB. after their name. Graduation from this program of study represents a major achievement and credential.
