Program Description
The diploma by design allows the student to guide their own studies, constructing their own diploma program from the ground up. Here is how it works.
The candidate works with The Companion Animal Sciences Institute to design the course lineup for their diploma that will provide a well rounded treatment of the chosen field.
There are two tracts related to how indepth or advanced the program may be:
Students considering this diploma option should contact us, identifying which tract they are interested in and the topic they wish to study and a proposed name for the diploma. Our academic advisor will then negotiate with you the appropriate program name and course line up to ensure that the name accurately identifies the course line up, the program meets the student's needs and the course line up is well rounded.
For example, a student might want to general tract diploma in "applied animal behavior" and mean that to involve ethology and learning. This could include Critical Thinking 102, Principles of Learning 104, Animal Behavior 102, Cognitive Ethology 112, Consulting Skills 113 and Independent Study 109. Or, as another example, a student may wish to work toward general tract diploma is "behavioral sciences" and include Critical Thinking 102, Principles of Learning and Behavior 104, Biology of Behavior 111, Functional Assessment and Behavior Change Programming 108, Research Methods 220, and Independent Study 109.
Graduates will be allow the letters representing their diploma name after their name and will be awarded a diploma.
Practicum & Supervision Modules
Please note that a PRACTICUM and/or SUPERVISION program can be added to this diploma program upon graduation. These programs are not required for the diploma but completion of either or both modules results in awarding of a new diploma reflecting the practicum or supervision program. Tuition
Tuition will be determined by the courses chosen. The tuitions will be added together and 15% taken off. 4% Charge for online payments and Canadian residents, 5% GST. Note that the pre-constructed diploma programs are usually discounted more than this and so if one of them matches your requirements, it is generally the better choice, price wise.
Schedule
The program begins as soon as your enrollment is complete and you receive your enrollment package. Although we allow 2 years for the general tract and 3 years for the advanced tract, you are free to complete the course sooner if you can, and we do allow extensions if need be. Note that you will see time limits for each individual course on the course pages, but when you are enrolled in a diploma program there are no intermediate deadlines. Nothing is due before the program time-frame listed here.
