If you are interested in upgrading professional dog training skills, then the Cert.PDTST is the way to go. If you are also interested in helping clients resolve problem behaviors, then the Diploma program is the way to go. In that case, you choose the tract that suits your interests. There is a species non-specific tract, the Dip.ABT, that does not specialize in any particular species and you may choose an elective course to specialize with. If you want to specialize in working with dogs then the Dip.CBST program is the way to go. Similarly, if you want to specialize in working with cats then the Dip.FBST program is the way to go and if you want to work with parrots then the Dip.PBST program is the way to go.
The Certificate programs, the Certificate of Dog Training, Certificate of Canine Behavior Science and Technology, the Certificate of Feline Behavior Science and Technology and the Certificate of Parrot Behavior Science and Technology are more for personal interest and while rigorous, do not contain courses in functional assessment, behavior change programming, professional activities/case management or professional ethics, although they are a comprehensive introduction to the principles of behavior and techniques of training.
