Course Description

This course discusses the different requirements for various types of canine athletes. It explores the different types of exercise and how the body uses nutrients to fuel those exercises. This course explores how nutrition can affect performance as well as the requirements of an athlete’s food. It also discusses glycogen and its importance to exercise and performance.

Students should emerge from this course with an understanding of:

  • Endurance vs. sprinting type exercises
  • Nutritional requirements for different types of athletes
  • How nutrients affect performance
  • Glycogen loading
  • The function of glycogen
  • Food requirements and digestibility

  • Canine and Feline Nutrition A Resource for Companion Animal Professionals 2nd Edition by Case, Carey, Hirakawa, and Daristotle (This text is available through CASI for $30 USD, which covers only the cost for shipping from publisher and shipping to you)
  • Small Animal Clinical Nutrition 4th Edition by Hand.

Schedule

The course begins as soon as your enrollment is complete and you receive your enrollment package. Although we allow 2 months for this course, you are free to complete the course sooner if you can, and we do allow extensions if need be.
