Course Description

This course explores some of the breed specific disorders that relate to nutrition. It discusses malabsorption of Vitamin B12, copper storage disease and zinc malabsorption and the breeds prone to these types of disorders. This course also explores nutritionally responsive disorders such as diabetes, urolithiasis, and colitis. This course does not instruct in diagnosing or treating medical disorders/diseases.

Students should emerge from this course with an understanding of:

  • Giant Schnauzers and Vitamin B12 malabsorption
  • Behavioral issues associated with zinc malabsorption
  • Copper storage disease
  • Hyperlipidemia
  • Purine metabolism
  • Diabetes
  • colitis
