Course Description

This course provides an examination of the dog's nutrient requirements and how they change throughout thier life. From neonate nutrition through gestation through geriatric requirements, this course will cover nutrition for the expectant mother, dealing nutritionally with orphaned puppies, adult maintenance, and nutritional requirements as dogs enter their golden years. This course is evaluated by way of assignments.

Students should emerge from this course with a foundational understanding of:

  • types of feeding regimes
  • caloric requirements
  • nutrition during the stages of gestation
  • nutritional requirements during lactation
  • weaning
  • unique requirements of large and giant breed puppies
  • geriatric nutrition requirements
  • nutritionally related changes in the aging pet

  • Canine and Feline Nutrition A Resource for Companion Animal Professionals 2nd Edition by Case, Carey, Hirakawa, and Daristotle (This text is available through CASI for $30 USD, which covers only the cost for shipping from publisher and shipping to you)

Schedule

The course begins as soon as your enrollment is complete and you receive your enrollment package. Although we allow 3 months for this course, you are free to complete the course sooner if you can, and we do allow extensions if need be.
